CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure – an applicator is applied to the surface of the skin to deliver precisely controlled cooling which then crystallizes and removes the fat cells in specific areas of the body. The fat cells in the treated area are gradually removed through the body’s normal metabolic processes. Treatment sessions vary from 35 minutes to one hour, depending on the areas being treated*. The key is to follow through on the complete plan personalized for you by our team, with a minimum of two sessions as this yields the optimal results.

No! Most people only experience sensations of pulling, tugging or pinching at the beginning of the process as a vacuum uses pressure to draw tissue into the applicator. There may also be feelings of tingling in the initial five minutes of the procedure, after which you can relax, watch a movie, read a book or simply lay back.

Coolsculpting uses cryolipolysis or cold to eliminate fat, while Vanquish ME uses radiofrequency heat energy to target fat cells; Kybella is an injectable medication that dissolves fat in small areas. At The Derm Institute, we offer all these modalities and will look at your body type and area of concern to customize a treatment plan which determines the best treatment or combination of treatments for you. Typically Vanquish ME is used for debulking, Coolsculpting is for “sculpting” definitive bulges or problem areas, and Kybella is used for small areas to perfect and contour.

Since CoolSculpting is completely non-invasive, patients generally resume their routine activities immediately, including returning to work and exercise regimens. Some patients experience redness, minor bruising, tingling, or numbness in the treated area, but this is temporary.

CoolSculpting can reduce fat in the target area by an average of 25% each session*. Results are seen as early as three weeks to three months after the treatment*. We do recommend 2 CoolSculpting sessions about 1-2 months apart for optimal results.

Fat cells destroyed by CoolSculpting and removed from the body are permanent. However, with weight gain, fat cells can still expand. If you maintain good exercise and dietary habits, the results should be longterm.

The price of CoolSculpting depends on the applicators used and the total number of sessions required to achieve the desired results. Because this depends on each patients’ needs, an in-office consultation and body mapping is required to determine pricing. It is crucial not to under treat as this can be a waste of resources.
