The most common areas of complaint in aging skin include the peri-orbital (around the eyes) and peri-oral (around the mouth) areas.  Stubborn crepy skin under the eye, under eye circles, under eye bags, or darkness under the eye can make anyone look more tired and worn-out. Vertical lip lines age the face, and can occur in both smokers and non-smokers. Dr. Chiu will customize an array of rejuvenation techniques including Botox, fillers, peels, and resurfacing lasers to achieve a rested, more youthful look.

Eyes

Botox or Dysport can be used to lift the brow, open the eye, and soften crow’s feet. A filler like Restylane is excellent to fill in hollow, dark circles under the eye, and can also give a little brow lift in patients with hooded or heavy eyelids.  Medium depth to deep peels such as the Baker-Gordon-Phenol Peel can be used under the lower eyelash line to smooth the texture of the area.  Lasers can soften any textural irregularities or fine lines in the area. Exilis radiofrequency can tighten lax skin.  Latisse can augment the lash line, and replace thinning of lashes that occurs over time.  Dr. Chiu will work with you to design a multi-pronged approach to address this difficult to treat area so you will look rested and refreshed.

Lips

The vertical lip lines around the mouth, commonly referred to as “smoker’s lines”, are caused  sometimes by smoking or in non-smokers they can appear over time as a result of pursing of the lips. This can include repetitive movements such as pouting, sucking through a straw, or drinking from the nozzles of water bottles. The repetitive puckering of the lips in these movements can result in vertical lip lines also referred to as “lipstick lines”. They tend to bother patients as it can lead to a very aging appearance.

Vertical lip lines can be softened with Botox to relax the repetitive movement very subtly and filled with a thinner filler like Restylane Silk or Belotero.  More dramatic improvements of deeper vertical lip lines can be improved with a combination of Fractionated Ablative and Non Ablative lasers, or a deep peel such as the Baker-Gordon-Phenol peel. We will guide you through the array of choices to find the best approach customized for your skin type and needs.
